Storyboard Text

  • Look sweetheart! That must be the plane that our friends who are migrating are leaving on.
  • Huh? What's migration?
  • Simply put, migration is the movement of people from one geographical location to another. Usually, when people migrate, they move for permanent residence.
  • There are two types of migration: immigration and emigration.
  • Immigration is the movement of people into a host country and emigration is the movement out of a home country.
  • Well that makes sense- but why would anybody want to leave their home country?
  • Good question! That brings us to push and pull factors. Push factors are things that force people out of an area and pull factors are those that attract people into an area.
  • Sometimes however, people don't have a choice about whether they leave their country or not. Many people are affected by prosecution, famine and natural disasters amongst other things. This forced movement is called involuntary migration.
  • When people do have a choice about whether they can stay or leave their country, it is known as voluntary migration.
  • Oh! Thanks for clearing all of that up Mom and Dad. Thanks to you, I now know more about migration and the topics discussed in it.
