  • Good morning America welcome back to CNN 10 and we will be taking a look at the lower Ganges valleys and their farmers
  • rice feild
  • Well Carl our landscape is so good for growing rice because the temperatures are 21 degrees C and over, rainfall over 2000m, rich soils and lastly a very important dry period for harvesting
  • I'm here in the rice field with farmer Cleveland brown and he is going to talk about how he grows his rice
  • So Cleveland may you please tell us how the climate and weather effect your farming
  • well the climate with the temperatures at 20 degrees and over all year round gives our plantation plenty of sunlight. The weather usually gives us 2000m of water
  • Well we often use water buffalos as workers. As well as our mass use of water as 90% of our water goes to rice farming
  • Lastly Mr. brown what are the inputs and outputs that go into your farm
  • Yes there are a few things. When harvesting rice it is first grow in nurseries. Then transplanted when the monsoon rains flood the padi feilds. Also when farming rice a terrace is a very important tequnique that helps with soils conservaton. It is a levelled section of a hilly cultivated area. It also prevents the rapid runoff of irragated water.
