  • Mrs. Green can you please remind me of how to solve all real number equations?
  • Of course, follow me!
  • First we need to write out our problem and do distributive property if needed.  You need to multiply the number on the outside into the inside numbers.
  • -2(2-2x)-4(x+5)    -24 -4+4x-4x-20    -24
  • Then, we need to combine like terms.  We do this so we can transform this all real numbers equation into a one and two step equation.  You need to pick a term that contains the same variable as in another term such as "x".  You them need to combine the two terms together.  Do the same thing to both like terms whether they contain a variable or not.
  • -4+4x-4x-20   -24          4x+-4x                     -4-20   -24
  • Next, you need to keep combining like terms.  This time you need to combine the two terms without variables.  You need to combine -4 and -20.  You get a sum of -24.  Then, you need to just bring down the less than/equal  to symbol and the other -24.  This shows the answer is -24   -24.
  • -4-20   -24 -24   -24
  • Lastly, you need to check your work by replacing "x" with -24.  Make sure the solution is equal to -24.
  • -2(2-2x-24)-4(-24+5)   -24                                                      2+-48            -19                                                           50x-2= -100+76=  -24   -24
  • Yay!! Thank you so much!
  • -24   -24
  • Yay! We did it!!
