Cinderella is standing at the top of the castle looking down at Prince Charming. She wants to go down to see him, but her evil stepmother has banished her from doing so. In order to escape, Cinderella can use trig to find out how tall the castle is. She knows that the Prince is 20 feet away at a 72 degree angle, so she calculates tan72= x/20. She discovers the tower is 61.6 feet long.
Since Cinderella only has a 25 foot rope, she can not make her way down the side of the building. She wonders if the rope will reach the prince, then she will be able to zip line down. She calculates how long the rope has to be by using cos72=20/x, only to find the rope must be 81 feet long.
Cinderella is beginning to lose hope. She doubts she will be able to see Prince Charming.
Trying to find a way, Prince wonders what angle to the castle he needs to be in order to reach the rope. To find this, he used the inverse of cosine = 20/25. He finds he needs to be at a 37 degree angle to reach the rope.
Cinderella is able to zip line down to Prince Charming, they escape her evil stepmother and live happily ever after!
