Joe Knight was chopping wood in the forest by the Presumpscot River (Geography) after spending 5 years with his family after being captured by Indians. He suddenly saw an Indian hiding behind a bush.

One Indian emerged and shot Joe in the leg with a musket (Economy), then broke his arm. Two more Indians emerged and said "Me got you now Joe!" Now, 5 years ago he was going to marry an Indian girl, people believe that this was why he was captured. He was going to be there chief (Government) years earlier (History).

They went further into the wood and headed north (Geography). At night fall they stopped and made camp to catch food.

They then proceeded to dig a hole. Joe thought he was going to be killed and then buried in the hole they dug together.
They bound his arm, put him in the ditch and covered his entire body except his head. Then they went to bed. In the morning, they undug him and his arm felt a lot better because of the pressure (Culture).

They went to their camp, and Joe wanted to escape. The Indians had plans to go from Brunswick to Saco, and attack settlers.
