Jocosta and Lauis had a baby who's prophecy was to kill the king and marry his mother, becasue of this the queen had him sent into the hills to die so that the prophecy would not be fulfilled
He was found by the King and Queen of Corinth, when he got old and found out about his prophecy he ran away from "home" so that he wouldn't kill his "father"
During his journey he came across an old man who he got into a fight with, not knowing that this man was actually his father, he killed him. He fulfilled the first part of his prophecy.
Oedipus then reached the city of Thebes where he came across a sphinx, the only way anyone could enter the city or get rid of the sphinx was to answer it's riddle. Oedipus was the only person who was able to do this and became the city's savior and new king who married his mother, Jocosta without wither of their knowledge.
Once Oedipus came and the sphinx left the city was still left with a plague which made Oedipus and Jocosta investigate why, they found out it was because Lauis' murder had to be avenged blood by blood but they did not know who his murderer was.
Jocosta and Oedipus found out that it was Oedipus who killed Lauis and that Oedipus was her son. After this discovery Jocosta killed herself and Oedipus gauged his own eyes out.
