Step-by-step instructions on how to deadlift properly
Stand shoulder-width apart. Place your hands just outside your hips on the bar.
Lift the bar, letting it brush against your shins. Keep the bar moving over the middle of your feet
When you go back down maintain your lumbar curve and keep your shoulders slightly in front of the bar.
Make sure your hips and shoulders rise at the same time. Keep your heels down.
Why is Squatting Properly Important? Squatting properly can make sure you avoid injury. And make sure you are getting the proper muscle engagement.
Squat vs. Dead lift A squat is a squatting movement and a dead lift is a hip-hinge movement. The squat focuses more on knee-bending and dropping your butt to work your legs, while the dead lift focuses more on loading the glutes. The dead lift is generally more focused on the posterior chain (butt) and the squat generally involves more quad. More forward lean is acceptable in the dead lift than the squat, because you are trying to keep your chest upright while sitting down.
