  • Transports tomorrow!
  • Rising Action
  • Where is merciful God, where is he?
  • Elie was a young 13 year old boy in Sighet studying Judaism and the Kabbalah. Moishe the Beadle helped with his studies and pushed him closer to God. His dad thought he was too young to pursue the Kabbalah. Moishe was taken, but would later return telling harsh stories.
  • Climax
  • Moishe the Beadle's warnings fell upon deaf ears, but everyone would regret not listening to him. German officers came into the village and burned the synagogue that Elie prayed and worshiped at every night. One night, Elie's father warned the entire family of transports; those transports would prove to be fatal for Elie's mother and sister.
  • Falling Action
  • The hanging of the poor young boy was a major point in the build-up of tension. Elie questions God's existence, why is God allowing this boy to suffer like this? Anger also grows in Elie because the SS officers hung a young boy.
  • Resolution
  • The march to Germany was the climactic point in the story. People getting shot here and there just because they couldn't keep up. Elie and his fatigued father successfully made it to their destination, but Elie suffered with his recently drained foot and Elie's father suffered multiple other issues.
  • Elie's father died right before Elie and the remaining 12 were liberated. On the edge of death, Elie's dad gets hit in the head allowing him to get just one more word out, "Eliezer." Elie's father was not fed while on his death bed, he was taken to the crematorium the day after he was hit in the head.
  • Eliezer...
  • On April 11th, 1945, Elie is liberated by the American army. This marks the end of his torture and imprisonment.
