"There'll be a mass meeting at Woburn on Independence Day..' When Lyddie looked puzzled she went on, 'Of the movement. The ten-hour movement. Miss Bagely will speak as well as some of the men.' There'll be a picnic lunch, a real Fourth of July celebration. How about it? I promise no one will sign your name to anything.
Person vs. Nature
"Don't nobody yell,'... Just back up slow and quiet to the ladder and climb up to the loft."
Person vs. Person
"We 're working longer hours, tending more machines, all of which have been speeded to demon pace, so the corporation can make a packet of money. Our real wages have gone down more often than they've gone up"
Lyddie visits Diana and talks about their plans for breaks and Diana offers Lyddie to join a picnic that happening on the 4th. This scene is person vs. society because Diana is protesting against the society for only 10 hours of work.
At this point of the story a black bear wanders into Lyddie's home, and tries to find the way out. The bear runs into the hot breakfast that was on the fire and gets stuck in it and runs everywhere. While this happen Lyddie without panicking get everyone up the ladder to the loft were they are safe. This is person vs. Nature because Lyddie is going against nature which in this case is the bear.
In this point of the book Betsy wanted to sign the petition because the corporation became unfair for them, Lyddie on the other hand does not mind it because she needs the money to pay of the family dept. Betsy is saying that she could go west if she falls under the blacklist, but Lyddie is trying to argue and not let Betsy sign the petition, because Lyddie needs the money. THis is person vs. person because Lyddie and betsy are fight over if betsy should sign the petition or not.
