Magnus Chase was made homeless after the death of his mom. and then his uncle, who his mom told not to trust, finds magnus and tells him he needs to reclaim a sword that is his birthright.
Hello, today I am reviewing the book, Magnus Chase. this novel is similar too the novel Harry Potter because they are in a bad situation and then realize they are powerful.
In both novels, the protagonist doesn't think very highly of themselves and this is a shared theme in most young-adult authors. this might be because of the reader sympathizes with the main character and they want to feel like they might be more special then they realize.
In the novel Harry Potter, Harry is living in his awful aunt and uncle's house, so when he finds that he is accepted into Hogwarts a school that's hard to get into making just for wizards and witches he is delighted.
Lets compare this novel to a famous short story The Sword In The Stone, They both are In a position with little power then they make a discovery that they are going to play an important roll in society. Arther pulls the sword out and discovered to be chosen to lead by a higher power. In Magnus Chase he finds a sword and finds out that he is related to a Norse god
But in Magnus Chase, he doesn't know if he is a hero, he just knows that he is related to a god. But in The Sword in the Stone, just by getting the sword he finds out he is a mighty being. So in Magnus chase, he doesn't know right away if he is the right fit to rule unlike The Sword In The Stone.
The world was being unfair and unkind to Magnus so why should he try to save people when they need saving? This is only something a strong and brave hero would do so. With people passing him on the street, not paying any attention to this homeless individual, little was expected of him. But when the time came he stands up and saves the lives of countless people.
Magnus's mother is another character in which her appearance does not match how she really is. By not teaching him of his background she is a key factor in his demise. she seems to be caring by keeping him away from certain people but she is really doing damage by not teaching him how to deal with the situation he is going to face in the future.
Overall this book shares similarities with other young adult novels. Overall it has a common story line and is also similar to a lot of fantasy novels.
If you like the genre of fantasy then you will most likely like this book. Overall I give this book an 8/10.
