Jefferson refuses to talk to Miss Emma, and Reverand Ambrose blames the radio for his uncooperative behavior. Ever since he received the radio from Grant, he has been listening to it nonstop.

Reverand Ambrose, Tante Lou, and Miss Emma have a conversation with Grant because of their issue with the radio. Tante Lou and Reverand Ambrose clearly do not approve of the radio.

Grant brought Jefferson pecans and peanuts that his student offered, and he offered to bring Jefferson a notebook and pencil the next time he visits, so that Jefferson could write his thoughts. Jefferson agrees to the idea and thanks Grant for the peanuts that the children gave.
