  • Old Rit gave birth to her youngest of many children and granted her the name Harriet Ross.  Old Rit and the other slaves in the quarter admired Harriet and suggested she work the big house, and Old Rit train her for that.
  • When Harriet was small she learned to walk on the dirt floor. Falling and getting up again. When she was around the age of two the whispering abot freedom increased.
  • when Harriet was just six years  she was quite knowledgeable, she was aware she was a slave as well. during this age she was taught manners and to say "Yes, Missus." "no, Missus." "yes, Mas'r" "no, Mas'r" and "Yes, sah." "No, Sah."
