Victory to the British!
Hong Kong is ours!
Treaty of Nanjing
In the picture above, the British and the Chinese are in the Opium War. The British have an advantage because the Chinese self isolated themselves for too long from the rest of the world. The British carry guns, while the Chinese carry swords. Also, The Opium in the water represents how the Chinese are in protest against opium flowing into China.
The British have fought the Chinese and defeated them. They were were victorious and the Chinese were forced to surrender. The Chinese decided to try and make peaceful amends to not stay in war with the British.
The Chinese ended up agreeing to a treaty from the British. The Treaty was very biased and is known as an unequal treaty today. The British asked for the Chinese to pay for the cost of damage and opium destroyed as well as asking for the city known as Hong Kong. They also could continue their Opium Trade
