Storyboard Text

  • When all of the ackroyd family along with the servants and Dr Sheppard gather at Poirot's request, the Belgian detective surprises everyone that he has found the missing Ralph Paton, Roger ackroyd's adopted son. He announces that he has been hid by Dr Sheppard who was a dear friend to him. Poirot also announces that Ursula Bourne the parlour maid has become Ralph's wife
  • Poirot then sits alone with Dr Sheppard. Dr Sheppard asks Poirot if he is aware of the murderer's identity, Poirot replies that he is. Poirot says that he figured out the correct scenario for the murder
  • Poirot explains the scenario starting from the phone call received by Dr Sheppard about the murder considering its motive of it in which the murderer wished to be present at the time of the murder at night
  • Poirot then considers that something on the table was ought to be taken by the murderer as soon as possible which explains why the murderer wants to be at the murder scene
  • Poirot recalls who was present with Roger Ackroyd before the murder: Parker, Major blunt, Raymond and Dr Sheppard. Parker is excluded as he has no motive for the phone call as he is the servant and can enter Roger's office at any time and take what he wants
  • Poirot then remarks that this object which ought to be taken by the murderer is a dictaphone, this explains the confusion of the correct time of the murder where Roger Ackroyd's voice was recorded and played when he was already dead, this was done to give the indication that he was still live at a certain time. Poirot then remarks that this object needs a large bag or case to be carried. Also, he then mentions how the murder weapon which belonged to the house should have been taken by the murderer beforehand.
  • Poirot then tells Dr Sheppard that the only one who could have done this is himself (Dr Sheppard). Knowing that he is really close to Roger. Since Roger has told Sheppard that Mrs Ferrars sent him a letter about who was blackmailing her for the murder of her husband before she dies, this person turns out to be Sheppard. So, Dr Sheppard murders Roger and plays the dictaphone and then takes it immediately with his medical suitcase after the phone call which he had organised for himself.
