Billy walks off the bus for school in the late spring. He is your average joy who enjoys school but has never really played any sports. Some of his buddies who are baseball players all walk towards school together.
Crossing the Threshold
As the friends head towards the door his friend Bobby tells him that last night in the baseball game there starting center fielder got hurt and would be out for the rest of the season. The team was in search of a new center fielder when Billy is asked if he would be willing to play.
Tests/ Allies/ Enemies
As the boys hang out at the lockers before school Bobby really wants Billy to play but he has never played baseball before in his life. He tells Bobby "No man, I'd never be any good." The friends unsuccessful beg Billy to play.
Billy sees that the team is in need because the state championship is tomorrow. He agrees to play! The team then begins to practice and Billy is doing very well.
The state championship is upon them and Billy is starting in center field. He has had a few great plays throughout the game. All is going well until he has an error in the last inning he is tested becuase of the immense pressure he is under. He is able to keep his composure and finish the game and they win with the help of Billy.
The Team has won the championship and are rewarded with state rings. The team heads home and Billy announces to the team that he will continue at school without being on the team anymore and continues on with his normal life.
