  • Jackson practiced the idea of spreading political power to more people and ensuring majority rule that became known as Jacksonian democracy.

He hoped that Native Americans could assimilate, or be absorbed into white culture.He passed the Indian Removal Act in 1830, which was a law that called for the government to negotiate treaties requiring Native Americans to relocate west. The harsh journey that the Cherokees made from their homeland to Indian territory became known as the Trail of Tears. The Indians were relocated West of the Mississippi.
