Storyboard Text

  •  Hi, I've been having stomach and joint pain, I have a fever, and I'm nauseous.
  • Have you had unprotected vaginal or anal sex lately or do you live with anyone with chronic HBV infection?
  • Yes, I had anal sex about 2 months ago.
  • Well, I'm going to give you a blood test for Hepatitis B. The most common age range is 30- 49 years, but you could've still gotten it through infected blood or body fluids. 15 to 30 percent of teens get Hepatitis B.
  • Is there a cure? Can I die?
  • The test came back positive, you have Hepatitis B. Which is a severe form of viral Hepatitis transmitted in infected blood, causing fever, debility and jaundice.
  • If not treated immediately, it can be fatal. There is no cure, but the treatment is an antiviral drug.
  • Are there any complications?
  • Ok, thank you. What can I do next time to prevent any other STI's?
  • Yes, you could possibly get liver cancer or failure or scarring of the liver.
  • You should know the HBV status of your sexual partner, always use a condom, don't share needles, make sure if you get a body piercing or tattoo that the tools are sterile, and ask about the Hepatitis B vaccine before you travel.
  • Okay bye thank you so much for all your help.
