Hi, my name is Alley and I have allergies. Let me explain to you why.
We all have a system within our body that fights off intruders. This system is called the immune system. Many different cells play a part in this system to keep us safe.
Mast cells are a part of this system and can also be responsible for our allergic reactions. They are involved in healing wounds and defending against diseases. They are always searching for anything that does not belong.
The mast cell spots an unknown object and releases a chemical called histamine that creates a rush of red blood cells to the scene.
I am only pollen!
Hey you! You are an intruder!
All of the red blood cells show up to the scene. And then the white blood cells show up too.
We are white blood cells!
We are red blood cells!
With all of these red blood cells, this causes the redness that you see. Also, this event causes full immune reactions that gives you the allergic symptoms.
