Gilgamesh was not an ordinary person. In fact, he would be considered super human. Gilgamesh was half god and half human. He was a very mean king to his people. The people would pray to the gods to save them from Gilgamesh.
The godess Aruru created a man equal to Gilgamesh in strength. This man was Enkidu. Enkidu lived hidden until a hunter found him by the river and reported him to Gilgamesh.
R. I. P. Enkidu
When Gilgamesh heard of Enkidu, he summoned a beautiful woman named Shamhat. Enkidu fell in love with Shamhat. Shamhat tought Enkidu to eat, dress, and do everyday things. Shamhat inspired Enkidu to change his heart for the better.
A Great Civilization
Gilgamesh was furious! He fought Enkidu, but since they were equal in strength, they fought for a very long time at the same pace. Finally, Gilgamesh won and became friends with Enkidu.
They had many adventures together. When the goddess of love saw how strong Gilgamesh was, she fell in love with him, but Gilgamesh rejected her. The goddess of love got mad and sent the bull of heaven to battle the two warriors. Gilgamesh and Enkidu won. They got in trouble but the gods forgave Gilgamesh because he was part god. Enkidu, on the other hand, got sick and died.
Gilgamesh was scared to die, so he searched for eternal life. He found out there was no eternal life, so he decided to leave behind a great civilization. Finally, when Gilgamesh died, the friends lived together in peace.
