Chapter 12-Brodie's neighbor came over delivering the news of a ceremony for Pauline, everyone would bring flowers, and they would go on a boat to the toadstool. Brodie and Alex decide to go and Brodie's mom clips her yellow roses for them to take. On the way down to the toadstool Brodie and Alex fun into Jill and Isabel, Pauline's friends. Hannah joined them as the toadstool came into sight. Once they had arrived the boat was already filled with flowers and gift. The boat went to the toadstool, the person inside loaded the flowers on the toadstool and the boat safely came back. Then, the news was delivered, Otis was dead.
Chapter 13- The day it came and it was finally Pauline's funeral, Brodie was not feeling up for it. Then he had to go to the funeral and when they got there everyone was down in the dumps. After many speeches, everyone was reduced to tears. Afterward Brodies mom convinces him to say a few words to Mrs. McCandless and to Pauline's mom. Finally, Alex and Brodie were heading home when Brodie asks Alex if he left the note. Then, Alex comes in shock to hear him say that and says "No!
Chapter 14- Hannah rushed to join Alex and Brodie, Hannah asked Brodie if he wanted to go look at the bats and he agrees. Once they get to the bat cave Brodie gets a pair of binoculars from Hannah and looks up at the bats. Afterwards, Hannah gets into a sentimental story about lying to her father. Brodie realizes that Hannah is the one who left the note and the towels. Then Brodie decides to tell the truth because of Hannah and Hannah kisses him.
Chapter 15- Brodies parents said they loved him but were surprised about what happened. When Raoul came he was angry and said the charge would only be an accidental death. That night Brodie crawls into his parent's bed and asks his dad if he can uphold him tomorrow, he says yes.
