Storyboard Text

  • “Non-verbal doesn’t mean I have nothing to say."
  • "Fair isn’t everybody getting the same thing... Fair is everybody getting what they need in order to successful.”
  • “All children can learn."
  • Maya’s parents knew she had plenty of thoughts...she just needed the proper tools to help her communicate them. Seeing Maya's face light up when she was able to tell her mom she wanted to go to the princess store with her dad by using the AT device proves the value AT devices hold.
  • Above are just some examples of Assistive Technology devices that students with disabilities can benefit from. Through the use of AT devices, Maya, Chris, Joshua and Jennifer were able to communicate their wants/needs and be understood.
  • It is important as an educator to familiarize the many ways students can communicate that allow “their voices to be heard” and feel valued. One new way I learned student’s can communicate is through artwork. For example, the use of warm and cool colors like Monica Valentine.
