Phillip II was king after his father Charles V. Phillip is catholic and is from Spain. Phillip is shy, serious, deeply religious and hard working. He would not allow any one to help because he trusted no one.
In 1600 American mines had supplied Spain with 339,000 pounds gold. Between 1550 and 1650 16,000 tons of silver bullion were unloaded Spanish ships. As a result Spain was able to support large army of 50,000 soldiers. In the future if Spain does something like this again they will always be able to support the army.
In 1571 the pope called on all Catholic princes to take up arms against the power of the Ottoman Empire. Phillip responded and 200 Spanish and Venetian ships defeated a large Ottoman fleet in a fierce battle near Lepanto. This may influence another king to fight and defeat a battle that someone else started.
In 1588 he launched the Spanish Armada in a attempt to punish Protestant England and queen Elizabeth I. Elizabeth supported the Protestants and defeated Philip. It shows tat this could cause a riot between Protestants and the King.
Phillip II was a forceful ruler. He tried to control every little thing of his empire's affair. During the next few centuries European monarchs would claim authority to rule without limits on their power.
Phillip II is the second most absolute ruler because he was too controlling and has trust issues.
