  • The exposistion of the story begins with Madame Loisel. She also has a husband. They live in the 19th century in France. They live in a nice house and they do very well for themselves. They have a maid to help them out woth the household chores.  
  • climax 
  • The conflict of the story is that Madame Loisel wants a better social life, she also wants to have nicer things because she feels that she doe not have enough.
  • falling action 
  • The rising action of the story is that Madame Losiel's husband gets an invitation to a fancy party. He went home and gave the invitation to her. She is exited but she feels like she need fancy clothes and jewelry. She then bought a brand new dress and went to her friends to borrow a necklace. 
  • resolution 
  • The rising action begins when Madame Losiel gets home and realizes she has lost the necklace her friend let her borrow. They both retraced their steps and looked for it but had no luck.She couldn't tell her friend that she lost it so she lied and said that it's broke and she has to fix it. 
  • The falling action of the story is that they decide to buy Madame Losiel's friend a new necklace. They found one that looked exactly like the old one except it was 36,000 franks. It took them 10 years to pay off all of their debt that they owed for that necklace. 
  • The resolution of the story is that Madame Losiel decided to tell her friend the truth about the necklace. When Mme Loisel went up to her friend she told her the whole story about how she lost the necklace and it took them 10 years to pay it off. Her friend told her that the original necklace only cost about 500 franks.
