  • Rising Action
  • I am now the emperor, and you MUST do what I say!
  • Climax
  • The narrator tells the year, 2081, and explains the new society. The new society uses handicaps to make everything equal and "fair."
  • Falling Action
  • Now, put your handicaps back on in the next 10 seconds!
  • Or you'll be next!
  • Harrison Bergeron escapes from jail and is said to be "very dangerous." He goes to a studio and demands that things go his way as he declared himself the emperor.
  • Resolution
  • Harrison and the ballerina are shot while in the studio and die.
  • Literary Device
  • I wish our son - BUZZ
  • Diana Moon Glampers reloads her gun and tells the people to get their handicaps back on, or else she'll kill them as well.
  • Hazel forgets the reason why she was crying, so she and George are unaware that their son has been killed. 
  • Simile: "A buzzer sounded in George's head. His thoughts fled in panic, like bandits from a burglar alarm" (Vonnegut 34).
