Storyboard Text

  • Yay! I've always wanted to live in a log cabin!
  • Wow! Look at all of these plentiful resources! We can cut down all of these trees to use for timber to build a house out West!
  • Look at all of this gold that we can mine! My family will become rich from this gold rush! We'll be living the California Dream in no time!
  • "As a public park, our pleasuring ground, for the benefit and enjoyment of the people" -Ulysses S. Grant
  • (Ulysses S. Grant): But if we all continue at this rate, all of these plentiful resources will run out, and we won't be able to live here anymore!
  • As a result, Ulysses S. Grant created the Act of March 1st, in 1872, which established Yellowstone as the first national park.
  • (Theodore Roosevelt): I created 5 new national parks following Woodrow Wilson, and 100 million acres of National Forests!
  • In addition, the Roosevelt Dam was built between 1905 and 1911 in Arizona, and it was 357 ft high. It forms roosevelt lake for water supply and controlling irrigation.
  • (Woodrow Wilson) I created the Organic Act on August 25, 1916, in the Department of the Interior, and in this department, this act created the National park Service. At this time, the United States only had about 35 National Parks!
