Jason my son, I too am concerned about this. Let me contact and meet with Charles Townsend and Jethro Tull. I recommend you travel to London to look for solutions there.
Father, we have little to no land left to till, and yet the people require more and more food. What shall we do?
Mr. Tull, Thank you for coming so urgently. What do you recommend I do to grow more food?
I see. This should help increase my harvest and allow me to feed the people. Thank you
I believe you should start planting your wheat through the means of a drill. If this works, you should be able to grow on the land for longer periods of time and need to leave it fallowed for less time.
Very interesting. This will provide year-round food for the peo. Thank you, Mr. Townsend
I recommend that you use crop rotation. When your field goes fallow, just sow with a plant like clover. It will help revive the land and will also give you food for your livestock. You can proceed to use the livestock that are fed the clover as food during winter, when the fields cannot be worked.
It is the use of a new system that involves enclosures. We would fence in our land, revitalize our fallowed land, and use block fields, instead of sporadic strip fields! Parliament has already allowed many other farmers to do this, so we could follow suit easily. Our harvest will increase drastically and we will be able to feed the people better.
What is it my boy?
Father, I have returned from London with a new farming method!
Amazing! Is there anything else we can do?
This is perfect Jason. We shall contact him and implement this enclosure system of yours immediately. Soon enough, we will have an abundance of food!
There is. I heard of a Dutch man named Cornelius Vermuyden whilst eating at a tavern. He is apparently knowledgable in regards to draining land. We could hire him to drain the swamp down the main road and make this swampland into more farmland.
