All summer, the boy watched Sheila. He was smitten with her.
The boy finally asked Sheila to a dance, she said yes, and the boy spent the rest of his day cleaning his boat.
The boy had secretly brought his fishing pole with him, and was only halfheartedly paying attention to Sheila.
During the boat ride, a large bass hooks onto the boy's pole. The boy is torn between catching the fish or wooing Sheila
Sheila notices the boat going in strange directions. The boy makes sure the fish is hooked onto the pole and takes Sheila towards the dance.
At the dance, Sheila goes home with somebody else. The boy gets back to the boat, and the fish gone. He regrets never catching the fish.
