When trying to negotiate with The Misfit, the Grandmother says that "he could be honest too if he tried". This shows that she is very optimistic and is going to try anything to get out of the situation. The Grandmother also brought a cat along on the trip without her family knowing, which could show she is somewhat deceptive.
When prompted by the Grandmother to stop his life of crime, The Misfit says he is "doing all right by himself." This shows he is very independent and possibly untrusting of other people.Being the villain in the story, he murders members of the family, which means he is uncaring and unemotional.
Red Sammy is very pessimistic and gloomy, as he says "Everything is getting terrible" in regard to how people used to be more nice.He also offers to fix a strangers car and gives them gas for free, which shows he is also kind and caring.
