Storyboard Text

  • Hooke found little shapes in a cork under a microscope, he names them cells after they reminded him of a monk's cell.
  • Brown studied these "cells" and discovered that cells have a nucleus.
  • Schwann noticed that all the animals he studied were made of similar cells. He concluded that all animals were made of cells.
  • Around the same time, Schleiden discovered that plants also are made made with very similar cells to each other.
  • but Schleinden thought that cells generated spontaneously, and Schwann disagreed.
  • Schwann and Schleinden worked together to come up with 2 conclusions on cells: Cells are the basic unit of structure for living things and all living things are made up of 1(+) cells.
  • Virchow settled this dispute by also disagreeing with Schleiden and adding "cells are made from pre-existing cells" as the last part of the Cell Theory.
