  • Lee fled from Richmond and Petersburg, and still wanted to resume fighting but came to the realization that continuing to fight back was hopeless. Lee then alerted general Grant that he was ready to surrender. The two generals are here today to arranger the surrender.
  • Back Story (Why Lee and Grant were in court)
  • Appomattox Court House (Virginia)
  • Today's date is April 9, 1865 and the court is now in session.
  • After laying down your arms, you may return home in peace. You may also take you horses and belongings with you.
