Storyboard Text

  • Overpopulation
  • Here we have rhinos in the wild, going about their business.
  • Here, due to variation, we get rhinos that are white instead of grey for different environments and some that also have no horns due to recessive traits.
  • Variation
  • Selection
  • Then hunters come along and hunt the horned rhinos for ivory.
  • Reproductive Advantage
  • Rhinos such as Bill are passed over by hunters since they don't have horns. He then lives to pass his trait of being hornless on.
  • Soon the allele frequency shifts as hunters pick off those with horns, giving Bill and his offspring the ability to continue passing on the hornless trait.
  • Allele Frequency
  • Resulting Population
  • In the future, possibly most if not all rhinos will not have horns since ones like Bill live to reproduce and grow the hornless population.
