Storyboard Text

  • A young girl walked to the witness stand. She rose her hand and swore that the evidence she gave would be the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth so help her God.
  • Will you please tell the jury in your own words what happened that evening in November.
  • I was on the porch and he came along and, you see, there was this old chiffarobe in the yard and I offered him a nickel to bust it up for me.
  • I went in the house to get him his earnings and I turned around an' 'fore I knew it he was on me. He was holding me by my neck and cussin' and hitting me agin' an' agin.
  • Does your father ever go after you? What I'm trying to say is, does he beat you when he's drunk?
  • Answer the question, Miss Mayella
  • My paw's never touched a hair o' my head in my life. He never touched me.
  • Is this the man that raped you?
  • It most certainly is.
  • How?
  • I don't know how he done it, but he done it-I said it all happened so fast.
