On New Years Eve in Camelot everyone was partying and having a joyful time, when suddenly a great, giant beast rode in. His name was the Green Knight and he challenged the knights and said that one of them must cut his head off and in a years time we must let him return the favour.
So King Arthur took on the challenge, but Sir Garwain said I will do it and everyone was astonished that Sir Garwain had accepted the challenge. However Sir Garwain stuck to he his word and he set off as he did not know how long the journey would take him.
So Sir Garwain set off on his epic quest to find the Green Knight. It took Sir Garwain nearly a whole year and he was losing hope when suddenly he found an abandoned castle in the middle off nowhere.
Sir Garwain was greeted by the Lord of the castle and his wife. Sir Garwain was told he could stay at the castle and when he had to leave the Lord would take him to the Green Chapel where the Green Knight was staying. However this proposition came with one condition that everything Sir Garwain got must be shared with the Lord.
Sir Garwain was woken one morning by the Lord's wife standing next to his bed. Sir Garwain was shocked to see her. She came with a proposition that if Sir Garwain took the scarf from her body that he would be safe from the Green knight . So he did.
The next day Sir Garwain went to the Green Knight's castle. He knelt down ready to have his head cut off. The Green Knight hit Sir Garwain's head with all his might, however all that came out was a dash of blood. That is how Sir Garwain survived his encounter with the Green Knight.
