The war of 1812. A lot has changed since then, including the White House itself.
But before we talk about that, let’s talk about why the White House changed so much.It all started way back during the Revolutionary War, during America’s first fight with Canada.
Colonial troops marched all the way to Quebec City, before being repelled. During the War of 1812, some members of Congress wanted to try again. They wanted to because Canada was allies with Great Britain
During this time, Great Britain was focussed on the Napoleonic Wars in Europe, therefore America thought this would be an easy fight. America went to Ontario, Canada in June of 1812. Two months later, Canada retaliated by marching into Washington D.C. led by Major General Robert Ross.
