  • Expostion
  • Rising Action
  • Climax
  • " TRUE! --nervous --very, very dreadful nervous I Had been and am; but why will you say that I am mad?" In this scene he is trying to convince us that he is not mad and is perfectly sane. He says that listen to him tell us the story so very calmly.
  • Falling action
  •  "I was never kinder to the old man than the whole week before I killed him."  In this scene he is treating the old man so kind. So the old man could never suspect that something awful was going to happen to him.
  • Resolution
  • "In an instant I dragged him to the floor, and pulled the heavy bed over him." In this scene he is killing the old man. The old man was scared because he knew that he was going to die. He had been hearing noise every night.
  • The plan
  • " There entered three men , who introduced themselves, with perfect suavity, as officers of the police." In this scene the police officers come to the house when a neighbor claims that they had heard a shriek from the house.
  • "Villains!" I shrieked, "dissemble no more! I admit the deed! --tear up the planks! here, here! --It is the beating of his hideous heart!" In this scene he admits that he killed the old man because he hated the old man's eye.
  • The creepiest part of the story is that when he is explaining what he is going to do. He goes into every detail in his plan. He explains that he cuts of his body limbs so he can fit in the spot where he is going to bury him.
