I read the book, Now You See Her by Jaquelyn Mitchard. The main character introduces herself as Hope. Her name was changed to Hope Shay from Bernadette Romano for her acting career. Most of the book is her journal entries looking back on the wild journey of her teenage life in acting school. At the end of chapters, she would often foreshadow events. For example, she ended chapter one by saying, "before Logan. Before the kidnapping." Her whole life was centered around acting. She explained how her mother pressured her into such a high stress career and she lived differently than normal kids her age.
Hope thought she was Juliet in her school play. She also thought a boy named Logan was madly in love with her and had sex with her all the time. She would foreshadow the destruction and regret that later followed.
"Surely Logan will come get me. He came up with the plan in the first place."
According to Hope's journal entries, Logan devised a plan to fake a kidnapping. He would "rescue" her to get her parents approval of him. Suddenly, he rejected her and started hanging out with a popular girl that Hope thought was mean.
Hope followed through with her plan by tying herself up and making it appear as though she had been kidnapped. The police finally found her and figured out her intentions through evidence. She was in huge trouble for fraud. Logan betrayed her and never came for her. Once she returned to her acting school, she cut herself and passed out from blood loss.
Hope awakened to a therapist explaining that she is in a treatment facility for mental problems. Everything she had thought was a hallucination. Her parents help explain the truth. Logan comes and explains that they were never a couple. She merely had an obsessive crush on him. And she had only been the understudy for Juliet. Also, "Em" had been an imaginary friend based off of memories of her mother's dead sister Marjorie.
