The Ionians were under Persian rule. The Ionians asked the Athenians to help revolt. The attempt failed, but King Darius was mad and vowed to get Athens for it.
the Greeks held off the Persians in Marathon, and the Persians were surprised by their strength. The Persians tried to battle them at sea, but lost.

Led by King Leonidas, 300 Spartans and many Greek soldiers, The Greeks held off the Persians at the mountain pass of Thermopylae. The Greeks went back to their city-states and Athens to prepare for battle. King Leonidas and the 300 Spartans died in battle.
We won! The Persians left Greece!
The Persians destroyed Greece, but the Greeks fled to Salamis before this happened.
The Persians attacked Salamis by sea, but the Persian ships are helpless in the narrow waterways. The Greeks attack the Persians and win.
In a final attempt at victory, the Persians attacked at Platea. Once again, the Greeks defeated the Persians and the Persians went back to Persia.
