  • Road Safety, How To Be More Aware.
  • Cool!, What are some ways to be safer on our roads?
  • Nice!
  • Today I have been invited to talk to you about road safety so that we can raise awareness about this issue.
  • Pedestrians are the second highest category of road deaths in NSW this year.
  • 54 Pedestrians have died due to road accidents this year.
  • Wow! Shocking statistics.
  • Firstly, pedestrians must always look both ways before crossing our roads.
  • And the death toll is increasing, which surprises me.
  • That's why we asked council to install a couple of extra traffic lights.
  • In Australia it is about twice as likely to get hit in the low-visibility country compared to the city area.
  • Secondly, when crossing the road at night, cross in a well lit area so drivers can see you.
  • And even more would be great!
  • Almost half of all pedestrian deaths are caused by alcohol, with 34% of those are the pedestrian's fault.
  • Wow! These statistics should discourage people from drinking and walking on the road or driving.
  • Finally, its best not to consume alcohol while walking or driving, because it can reduce your reaction time.
  • That's also why laws around alcohol have been tightened.
