Storyboard Text

  • I am going to make my eldest son Ram the king of Ayodhya.
  • I agree.
  • Kaikeyi, your own son Bharat should be the king instead of Ram.
  • Yes. Of course I remember!
  • The time has now come to ask for them.
  • Do you remember the two boons Dasharath gave you a long time ago?
  • Dasharath, the king of Ayodhya, announced that he was going to crown his son Ram the heir to the throne.
  • My King, I have something to ask you. I would like you to grant me those two boons from long ago.
  • Anything you wish, Kaikeyi.
  • Manthara was the maid of Kaikeyi, one of Dasharath's wives. She did not want Ram to become king.
  • Fourteen years, Kaikeyi?
  • Manthara believed that Kaikeyi should ask for two boons; one, for Bharat to become the king, and two, for Ram to be sent to exile for fourteen years!
  • Father, I understand that I must go into exile and obey your wishes. I will do so gladly.
  • She prepared to confront Dasharath.
  • When Kaikeyi told Dasharath about her wishes, he was aghast. But he had no choice except to grant the boons.
  • One of the boons will be that Bharat will become the king, and the other will be that Ram will be banished from Ayodhya for fourteen years.
  • When Dasharath told Ram about Kaikeyi's wish, Ram was the ideal son and was more than happy to go into exile.
