  • Japanese Citizens overthrew the shogun because it was the Shoguns fault for Americans entering japan
  • After Russia rejected Japans plan to split Korea, Japan launches a surprise naval attack causing whats called The Russo-Japanese War in 1905
  • This was called the Meiji Restoration (At the time it was called the honorable restoration.) It is also known as the Meiji Renovation, Revolution, Reform. This event restored practical rule to the empire of Japan. This took place in 1868.
  • A new leader was declared as the emperor Meiji. He was only 14 at the time 
  • The Meiji Constitution of 1889 lasted until 1947, after World War ||. The Meiji bans the samurai because they cant fight guns with swords. They did this in efforts to industrialize Japan,
  • The Japanese won the war after decimating Russian bases with their new weapons. This made Russia realize that they would need a lot more resistance against Japan. The war ended after the 1905 president of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt made a peace treaty.
