Here Tituba and the other girls of Salem dance in the woods and do other things to try to get what they want. Reverend Parris watches in horror from affar as he sees his house maid Abigail and niece Betty participating.
The Secret Affair
Reverend Parris knees by Betty's side as she lays on her bed unable to wake up. He also interrogates Abigail about them dancing in the woods. As a response she claims the whole thing was harmless.
Abigail yells at Mary Warren, Betty, and Mercy Lewis about not telling anyone what went on in the woods. She threatens to hurt them if they do.
Hysteria in the Making
Abigail and John Proctor argue about their affair. Proctor wants the whole matter to be forgotten by Abigail, but she says that he still loves her and she waits for him every night.
Reverend Hale arrives from Beverly to help with the witch crisis in Salem. He is horrified to hear about all of the terrible things that are going on. He also makes it very clear that he is the smartest one in the room.
The girls frantically start to accuse many other people in the town. This is so they can plead innocent. The others present fully believe them, but no one knows what this blind believing will develop into.
