Storyboard Text

  • Kids! Pizza is ready. Come and eat! Everyone got a fraction of the pizza.
  • Yay! I'm starving
  • It's not fair. She has more than me. I just have 1/4 of a a pizza.
  • Mom! John has more than both of us. He has 3/12 and I just have 2/8.
  • 1/4
  • 2/8
  • 3/12
  • Ha! Ha! I get the most. Mom loves me the most!
  • STOP! You all have the same amount of pizza. They are called equivalent fractions.
  • Oh ya prove it!
  • Equivalent fractions are equal to each other even though they do not look the same. Equivalent fractions will all simplify to the same fraction. To simplify a fraction you see if there is a common factor to divide both the numerator and denominator by.
  • Piper: Your fraction 1/4 is in simplest form because 1 is the only common factor of 1 and 4.
  • John: We can simplify your fraction by dividing the numerator (top) and denominator by the common factor, 3. Your fraction 3/12 also equals 1/4.
  • Aubree: We can simplify your fraction by dividing the numerator (top) by 2 and dividing the denominator (bottom) by 2. Your fraction 2/8 equals 1/4.
  • Oh! That makes sense. We all have the same amount of pizza! We all have 1/4 of the pizza.
  • Thanks Mom! Equivalent fractions can be fun!
  • They can taste yummy too!
