There was a lot of racism towards African Americans, who endured a lot of violence (attacks/lynchings). Racial tension was high. They were denied of their basic rights, such as equal housing, equality, and voting.)
While men were in and coming out of war, women entered the workforce and began to earn higher wages. Now that women were working, they were granted the right to vote.
