After everyone left, George, Lennie, and Candy come up with a plan on how they’re going to get there own land and pace and talk about all the things they are going to do there.
In this scene George and Slim talk about Lennie and their past and how they met each other and why they travel together and Slim notices how nice of a person Lennie is. Due to the way George talks to Lennie Slim notices how much of an innocent and vulnerable child Lennie is.
Next, Carlson enters the room and notices a strong and unpleasant smell. The smell was from Candy’s old dog whom he is very attached to and Carlson decided he wants to put the dog out of its misery and asks for permission to shoot it. After, convincing Candy he thinks its for the best and his old dog gets killed.
Then, Slim goes to the barn, meanwhile Curley is looking for his wife and when he is notified that Slim is somewhere outside he comes to the conclusion that Slim and his wife might be together.
At the end of Chapter 3, Curley, Slim, and Carlson return to the bunkhouse and Curley tried to apologise to Slim for accusing him but when he sees Lennie laughing at a thought he immediately thought he was being laughed at and started a fight and ended up getting badly injured. Lennie was extremely scared but he had to protect himself from Curley
