While she was gone, Mary noticed a sugar packet on the side of the road. Mary sighed, remembering the times when there was sugar readily available in her home. This got her thinking of all the things she had gone without for almost three years now, sugar, new toys and clothes, milk and much much more. Mary heard footsteps coming behind her but ignored them.
"I would be interested in purchasing that basket for my wife. She would love that weaving, it is quite lovely. But, I can't pay you, would you except these seeds as a sort of payment?"
"Hello there, that's a nice basket you have. Is it for sale?"
"Yes, in fact, it is all of these things are for sale."
The man walked away, and a few moments later her mother came out brandishing a sweater.
Well, I could plant them in our garden, and sell the produce! I'll do all the work myself, you won't have to do a thing."
What are we going to do with these?"
Who was that? He seemed nice."
"I just sold him that old basket, of mine. Look, he gave me these seeds!"
