During 1777, many nurses were women who were following the army for food and shelter. They did things like feeding patients, cleaning and sometimes cooking. Female nurses generally invented new ways to treat patients.
Some women were spies during the war. They would be cooks and maids for British and American soldiers, and they eavesdropped on the conversations. They could relay information back and for without anybody suspecting anything.
Many women disguised themselves as men to fight in the Revolutionary War. They would cut their her, bind their chests, and use fake male names. Some women didn't even disguise themselves and just armed themselves in the streets, like Prudence Cummings Wright.
