  • Younger:I am so excited I got a 4.0 on my report card!
  • Older:That's nice... I got a 4.7 though.
  • Freud used Psychoanalytic theories to explain personalities using defense mechanisms. Denial is refusing to believe/perceive painful realities. This explains a personality of ignoring the truth, for people do not want it to actually be true.

  • I just want someone to make me feel safe, I have always been so stressed here.

  • Carl Rodgers uses humanistic theories to show that people are good unless impacted by the environment that inhibits growth. Rogers person-centered perspective is the key to enable people to grow. Empathy shares/ mirrors others feelings and reflect their meanings. Empathy helps people stay good and allows their personality to grow.

  • Adler uses psychodynamic theories to explain how birth order has an affect on personality. Behavior is driven by efforts to overcome childhood inferiority complex and to strive for power and priority.

  • Horney uses Psychodynamic theories to explain personality based on child experiences. Childhood Anxiety creates a later desire for love and security.
  • One of Costa and McCrae's theories contained the Big 5. This predicts actual behavior and traits remain stable. The big 5 is conscientiousness, openness, extroversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism. Conscientiousness traits include hard working and dependable.
  • Albert Bandura uses a social cognitive way of showing behavior. Personal Control creates a big question. Do we see ourselves as controlling or controlled by our environment?
