The king is told that his son will kill him, so he ordered a slave to kill him. Instead, the slave left the child on the mountain to die.

Falling Action
Oedipus finds out about the prophecy, so runs away to go to Thebes to avoid killing his father. On his way there, he ends up killing the king. When he got to Thebes he helped get rid of the sphinx and was crowned the new king. Later on, he found out he killed his father and married his mother.
Resolution
Oedipus came home to see his mother hung herself. He then gouged out his own eyes.
