Hi my name is Joey I am 10 years old and I am in year 4 and I have an older brother James who is 14. While I am doing my own thing I never really noticed the changes in him.
Can you see what I am talking about? He is in his own world of music, chatting with his friends ....sigh! And Yew... his room stinks!!!
" What's wrong with James?" I asked mum and dad. Dad explained, "Joey, he's a teen going through puberty. It's normal for many hormonal changes to happen to his body, when you're a teen, even you will go through puberty Joey." " What! no I won't" , I retorted. " Yes you will , everybody does Joey," supported mum. "It's the phase between being a child and a young adult. He is still your brother and that will never change."
He got back into tennis and soccer
Things slowly started looking up for James as a result of some lifestyle changes and attitudes .
He joined the church youth group
He got complete support and love from our parents
Now at 14, hormones have kicked in and my puberty journey has started!! I have had a growth spurt and so many physical changes myself. Luckily I am more informed thanks to the 'Interrelate sessions at school , James and my parents being there to help me cope with the changes in my physical body and emotional well being.
I am 18 and finished school. Looking back what I have learned about change is that we shouldn't be scared but embrace the fact that everybody will go through it, it doesn't change who we are as a person, we will still be loved by our family and most of all by God our creator. I myself have already gone through puberty and some day you will go through it as well.
