  • Scarlet Ibis; Pride
  • Scarlet Ibis; Faith
  • Scarlet Ibis: Expectations
  • In the "Scarlet Ibis" the brother teaches Doodle to walk because he is embarrassed of him. The theme is that too much pride can hurt others.
  • Simon Birch: Parenting
  • In the "Scarlet Ibis" the brother thinks/has too much faith in himself to not fail on anything he does. He does not think that he will fail at teaching Doodle anything. The picture is when Doodle was learning how to swim.
  • Simon Birch: Understand & accept life
  • In the "Scarlet Ibis" the family and the town all have very low expectations of Doodle and don't think he'll live long from the minute he was born they thought he would die. He exceeded expectations. The scene is when Doodle walks in front of the family.
  • Simon Birch: Acceptance
  • In "Simon Birch"  His parents do not care at all about him at all. A prime example is when Simon asked to sleep over at Joe's house and when he called home to ask his dad said, "I don't care." I think that the theme that this portrays is when you're ready to have a child you better be ready to learn to accept them.
  • In the film the main characters are faced with a lot of hard times, instead of moping around and being sad about it all the time they learn to accept life for what it is. The theme is that life will throw hard times at you more than it will give you good times. You just have to learn to push through them.
  • In the movie, Simon and his friend Joe are constantly being made fun of and teased. Joe gets teased because he doesn't know his dad. While Simon gets teased because of his size and how different he is. The theme is here that just because someone is different doesn't mean that you need to treat them that way or make them feel that way, learn to accept differences.
